‘James Mason’ Rose

Rosa gallica 5x4' R. gallica hybrid (Scharlächglut × Tuscany Superba) Peter Beales, UK, 1982. Semi-double 4" crimson blooms have the velvety trait of gallica parent Tuscany Superba, itself the progeny of the beloved and much sought-after Tuscany rose (see below). Fragrant! Blooms once a summer. Very hardy and vigorous shrub form. Will send up shoots and become dense in time. Great as a hedge rose. Apparently named for the actor who played thorny handsome leading men and collected roses in his spare time. Z3/4. NEW! (9–18")
