Welcome to Fedco’s 2025 Bulbs order!
After a beautiful cold winter, which offered the best ice skating and skiing we’ve had in years, we’ve emerged into a proper Maine spring—lots of rain, April snows, mud and flooded basements, but enough sunny days to awaken the crocus, squill, snowdrops, narcissus and the rest of the early spring blooms. By the time this catalog has landed on your kitchen table, the tulips may have come and gone.
Last year we overhauled our flowerbulb offerings, expanding our Narcissus and Tulip lists to showcase a wider array of forms and colors, both antique and modern. This year we’ve spruced up our Flowering Onion lineup—if you’re not sure Alliums are your thing, take a second look. And check out our expanded Peony selection, which now includes three gorgeous and hardy Itoh Peonies.
Our garlic assortment is robust as always. We’ve rounded up a nice selection of hardneck Porcelain, Rocambole and Purple Stripe varieties, and added a braidable softneck garlic. All our garlic is grown in the cold Northeast, mostly here in Maine, and each lot is tested to ensure you receive healthy seed stock.
Even at the brightest time of year, gloom can shadow our communities and our doorsteps. High prices, economic instability and unease may still rule the day as you read this. The flowerbulb industry faces a hard year due to a terrible 2024 growing season in Holland, substantially reduced seed stock, and the specter of disruptive import tariffs. We’ve done our best to mitigate price increases to keep the joy of gardening accessible.
We encourage you to find inspiration, cheer, a little levity, and some new garden companions within these pages. And don’t forget to simply look down; those well-established flower clumps in our yards and gardens may be ready for division. Spread them around your home or neighborhood, trade with fellow gardeners, or simply gift your abundant bulbs to others. Flowers and friends alike will be grateful.
Happy planting!
