Kubanskaya European Plum

bare-root trees
Prunus
Late summer.

Traditional brandy plum from Serbia. Damson-style purplish-black fruit is medium sized, oblong and ovular. The flesh is firm greenish-yellow, juicy and sweet with a balance of acidity.

Introduced to us (along with Pozegaca) by orchardist and cidermaker Gene Cartwright of Whaleback Cider in Lincolnville, ME, who spent some formative time in the Balkans, where plums are an important part of many culinary traditions. Gene learned all about customary plum brandy, or Slivovitz, and was inspired to grow these classic Serbian stone fruits. Also good for baking, jams and drying.

Self-fertile and late blooming. Z4.
