This is a twig for grafting. Winter.
McIntosh x Longfield. U Minn, 1943. Also known as Connell Red. Another gem from the University of Minnesota breeding program.
Extremely hardy, excellent storage variety. Large round-to-oblate shiny light red fruit with darker stripes and splashes of flame orange covering a yellow base. Firm crisp juicy yellow flesh is mild, approaching sweetness. Good for fresh eating, salads and baking. Maine grower Chris Willrodt sliced up a perfect specimen for us during a midwinter scionwood-collecting work day; it was still crisp, juicy and flavorful.
Highly productive, vigorous, broadly spreading, somewhat up-curving tree. Z3.
